The Iloilo Dinagyang Festival 2009 “On Higher Ground”
The much awaited festival of Iloilo, The Dinagyang Festival 2009, is on the move and was kick-off last December 1, 2008. The executive committee of the Dinagyang Festival is prepparing for this festival to fulfill its objective giving another best festival for tourist and local visitors. The local government of Ilolo together with the Executive Committee of the Dinagyang Festival 2009 and the Iloilo Dinagyang Foundation Incorporated (IDFI) promise to visitors especially the balikbayans and tourist that the Dinagyang Festival 2009 will be a fun-filled celeration and full of excitement.
The Dinagyang Festival which is voted thrice as the Top Tourist Event in the Philippines is celebrating its festivities on January 16 to 25, 2009. The highlights will be on the 25th which is the fourth Sunday of January 2009. The Dinagyang Festival 2009 will again draw thousands of local and tourist visitors. What these visitors especially balikbayans and tourist want to again the Ilonggo’s paint themselves in black and dark brown and dressed in colorful costumes that dances to the loud non-stop beating of the drums and shouting “Viva Señor Santo Niño!”
The cultural highlights of the Dinagyang Festival 2009 is the street dancing parades and competition called the Kasadyahan and the religious highlight isthe fluvial procession where devotees carry the image of the Santo Niño (the image of the Child Jesus).
The Dinagyang Festival 2009 theme is “On Higher Ground”. The organizer, Executive Committee, Iloilo Dinagyang Foundation Incorporated (IDFI) and the Iloilo local government are working very hard to make this Dinagyang Festival very successful and wants to maintain its recognition as the Best Tourism Event in the Philippines.
