Siargao Island Will Stage First Ever Cloud 9 Masters Open

A first ever Cloud 9 Masters Open will commenced at Siargao Island’s Cloud 9 frpm May 8 to 11, 2008. This tournament is organized by Tatus, a Siargao-based surfing organization, in cooperation with the Philippine Surfing Federation.

The Siargao Cloud 9 Masters Open will be held on the best two days of conditions from Friday, May 9 to Sunday, May 11.  On the eve of Thursday, May 8 will be the opening ceremony and the competition will start on May 9. The first ever Cloud 9 Masters Open organizer has invited about 100 men and women surfers to compete in this tournament that is held in one of the hottest surfing destinations in Asia. A total prize of approximately $550 US and that is 22,000 Php is at stake. An entry fee of PHP100 will be charged per participant.

A 12-strong field of the Philippine best surfers will lead the charge of the prestigious tournament. The Siargao Cloud 9 Masters Open is supported by Siargao’s resort owners, San Miguel Corporation, Local Government of General Luna and the Department of Tourism Caraga - Region 13. This prestigious tournament will be held in Siargao Island’s Cloud 9, a a powerful hollow right hander that has been hailed as one of the ten best waves in the world and has been frequently compared to the renowned surf of Hawaii and Indonesia.
