Palawan’s Subterranean River Represents Philippines in New7Wonders of Nature

It’s official that out very own Palawan’s Puerto Princesa Subterranean Underground River National Park will represent Philippines to the world and will be our bet in the search for the New7Wonders of Nature. The official results of the first phrase of voting was released in the New7Wonders Foundation headquarters.
The official voting of the first stage was ended at midnight of December 31, 2008 on the International Date Line. After that, all voting was suspended so that organizers can tally and verify all votes. The second phase of voting started last January 7, 2009.
The Head of Communications for the New7Wonders said that, “We congratulate the successful qualifying locations from the Philippines and wish them the best of luck in the second phase of voting.” She also added, “We also at this time highlight the strong and enthusiastic participation of the other national nominees that are not proceeding — many have already benefited from a significant increase in worldwide awareness, which, in itself, is a recognized important benefit for all involved in the New7Wonders campaigns.”
261 out of 441 nominees are qualified in the second phase of the search for the New7Wonders of Nature. This means that 180 of them are eliminated. The qualified 261 nominees are now one step closer being selected as the official New7Wonders of Nature. The second phase of voting started last January 7, 2009 and will end on July 7, 2009. The New7Wonders officials and organizers will select the top 77. In the top 77, 21 Official Finalist will be chosen on July 21, 2009.
After the 21 Finalist be selected, the third and final phase of voting will begin. People around the globe will have approximately 2 years to select and cast their vote in amonst the 21 Finalist of the New7Wonders of Nature. The final result of the Official New7Wonders of Nature will be revealed on 2011.
