First Chinese New Year Festival in Davao City

This will be the first Chinese New Year Festival that will be celebrated in Davao City. The said festival will be on January 26 to 31, 2009. The City Mayor Rodrigo Duterte has signed Executive Order 1 series of 2009 created the executive committee of the said festival.
As you can see, Davao City has the largest Chinatown in terms of land areas and population. The Chinese community here work together in Unity together with the local government of Davao City. Davao City has also the biggest concentration of hardworking Chinese families. Because of this, the Chinese New Year Festival is the fruit of a united Chinese community, working together with the local government.
The first ever Chinese New Year Festival in Davao City will kick off on January 24, 2009 wit hthe highlight to be held on the eve of January 25 until 6 in the morning of January 26, 2009. There are lots of exciting activities that has been prepared such as a motorcade of various stakeholders, Chinese families, sponsors, and supporters. There is also a unity dance that will be performed as part of the Chinese culture and traditions. In the main event, Chinese lanterns will be lighted.
The Chinese New Year Festival will also display the Chinese’s culture heritage and tradition to the public. The exhibition will be set in the Museo Dabawenyo where the non-chinese people will learn Chinese cultural heritage and tradition.
There are stills lot of activities in the Chinese New Year Festival. There will be nightly entertainment like Chinese dances and songs. Chinatown stores will be open until midnight for the shoppers. And also The Chinese families will provide community feeding in the barangays within the Chinatown.
On the 31st of January 2009, the Arch of Unity and Prosperity will be unveiled as the culmination of the weeklong festival.
