Batangas Philippines: Bonito Island Resort in Mabini
Bonito Island Resort was once an exclusive dive resort that offers diving packages but is now reintroducing itself as both an activity-filled getaway for the whole family and a convenient out-of-town resort for corporate outings.
Hardcore divers swear by the resort’s great diving facilities and waters that are teeming with rich marine life. The resort also offers other water sports like kayaking, jet skiing, snorkeling, fishing and island hopping and wind surfing. Anyone who loves the sun, sea and sand will surely enjoy a day at the heart-shaped island resort.
Diving at Nonie’s point is a shallow dive with maximum depth of 50 feet. Here, divers will find the underwater bridge near the nursing station of sharks. Crevices, undercut, canyons and big boulder are common in this dive site. Due to heavy currents in the area, hard corals are more abundant than soft corals. Angel fish, butterfly fish, wrasse, sweetlips, surgeon fish, jacks, tuna, snappers and rainbow runners are very common in this area.
For guests’ accommodations, Bonito Island Resort have beachfront cottages, longhouse, mangyan rooms and duplex rooms. M/Y Bonita Loveboat can accommodate 40-50 pax and has 11 cabins.
Bonito Island resort can be reached by land and sea (4 hours), 3 hours by car from Manila to Mainaga pier in Mabini (near Batangas harbor) . From Manila, there are two possible routes, both accessible via South Superhiway. The faster route is to get off at Calamba exit no. 50 A to Lucena, turn right to the Star tollway, to Batangas, get off at Lipa/Talomo exit the end of the expressway, turn left to Batangas. The more scenic route is to get off at Sta. Rosa exit no. 40 and pass by Tagaytay and Lemery before reaching Batangas harbor. To reach Maniaga pier in Mabini, proceed through Bauan and after the 144 km sign, turn right to Petron Terminal Mabini. Maniaga pier is near Petron’s terminal. It is 45 minutes from Maniaga to Bonito Island by banca.
