Nominated as one of the new 7 wonders of the world is
our very own Tubbataha Reef. It is very nice to hear
that one of our own natural tourist attraction is being
nominated to be one of the new 7 wonders of the world.
Tubbataha Reef, a 96,000 hectare ecosystem reef in the
middle of the Sulu Sea, is Asia's best marine park has
been recognized last July 2007 with other hundred other
natural attractions across the continent.
In 1993, Tubbataha Reef was declared as World Heritage
Site by United Nations Educational, Scientific and
Cultural Organization (UNESCO). Tubbataha Reef has
attracted thousands of divers and adventurers around the
world. Tubbataha Reef help boast Philippine tourism and
constantly generated millions of pesos from dive
tourism. Last year from January to December, it
generated P4 million pesos from diving tourism alone. It
also has an income in aside from diving that pegged at
millions of pesos annually and this help our tourism a
lot.
Tubbataha is Asia's best diving reef because it is the
home of more than 10,000 coral reefs 483 species of
fish, two nesting species of marine turtles, nine
species of marine mammals. Not only that, Tubbataha Reef
islets are among the last breeding strongholds of
seabirds in Southeast Asia.
Tubbataha is reportedly contributed ecological value of
P840 million every year in the country’s economy in
terms of fisheries and tourism.
Tubbataha Reef has one of the best few place in the
world that is worth visiting for, the Tubbataha Reef's
"underwater world of wonders". In this, an environmental
advocate, Alex Marcaida, is urging Filipinos to vote for
Tubbataha Reef so that it can make to the top 21st
finalist in the prestigious search for new world
wonders.
Other nominees such as Christ Redeemer of Brazil, Taj
Mahal of India, Petra of Jordan, Machu Picchue of Peru,
Great Wall of China, Colosseum of Italy, and Chichen
Itza of Mexico alsready has garnered more than 1 million
votes.
