Caraga Region has Strong Potential in Tourism Industry

The Department of Tourism is eyeing the Caraga Region that it has a very strong potential in tourism industry in the future. Secretary Joseph Ace Durano of the Department of Tourism has said this in his discussion with the members of the local press.

Secretary Durano is very optimistic that tourism industry will uplift the economic status of Caraga Region. There are still undiscovered natural attractions of this region that are yet to be discovered. Caraga Region has a lot of things to offer in terms of tourism. It has a lot of natural tourist attractions by nature. Caraga Region will become one of the tourist destination of the Philippines. Local government unit of Caraga and DOT is developing tourist sites so that it will gain additional income of the region.

ASEAN Green Hotel Standard was Awarded to Shangri-La Mactan Resort and Spa

Shangri-La Mactan Resort and Spa in Cebu recently received the ASEAN Green Hotel Standard award because of the five star hotel resort’s compliance with environmentally friendly and energy conservation measures. The 10 member countries of the ASEAN consider the ASEAN Green Hotel Standard is one of the six ASEAN tourism standards as very essential to help the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) to be a Quality Single Destination. The 10 member countries of the ASEAN are the Brunei Darussalam, Cambodia, Indonesia, Lao, Malaysia, Myanmar, the Philippines, Singapore, Thailand, and Vietnam.

The ASEAN established the tourism standards as one measuer in the road map for the integration of the tourism sector to realize the ASEAN economic community. The ASEAN tourism standards task force is currently chaired by Thailand.

2008 Moriones Festival in Marinduque Philippines

This is a week long religious eventcelebrated by the people of Marinduque. Moriones Festival starts on Holy Monday and ends on Easter Sunday. The 2008 Moriones Festival is a very colorful event in the Philippines which people are eager to experience. Visitors such as tourists and locals will see the participants in colorful costumes re-enact the story of Longinus, a Roman centurion who, it is said, speared the crucified body of Jesus Christ. The 2008 Moriones Festival will be celebrated starting on March 17, 2008  and will end on March 23, 2008.
