The basal metabolic rate which is the rate at which the body burns up calories decreases by approximately 2% per decade after women reach 18 years of age. It is a known fact that women tend to become less active as they get older and may eat more.

When it comes to choosing a pill or oral contraceptive, women nowadays have a wide option. It has been proven that there is little or no connection between the pill and weight gain in women who are taking it. Studies have shown that low-dose pill containing 20 mcg of estrogen and 150 mcg of desogestrel confirms these findings. In fact in another study conducted by another group, their finding shows that the low-dose pill even decreased the weight of the study subjects. The researchers suggests than if weight changes, be it gain or loss, take place during the use of the pill, other pertaining factors like exercise, eating habits and lifestyle changes should also be taken into consideration.
