Skin Care Tips for the Kids
It’s never too early for kids to learn about sun protection. That way, they can truly enjoy running and basking in the sun. Start with basic information about SPF or Sun Protection Factor. Tell them that SPF measures the amount of UVB and UVA radiation that goes deep into our skin. Out in the sun, a fair-skinned person would normally get sunburn in approximately 10 minutes. A SPF of “10″ means that when applying this sun screen lotion, it will take 10 times the normal duration for him to burn, or 10 X 10 = 100 minutes. This doesn’t mean, however, that you’ll slather him with sunscreen only after a hundred minutes. It’s best t ore-apply sunscreen every 30 minutes. If he’ll be out long, its best to use a higher SPF: Tell your kids, too, that UVA and UVB rays can penetrate into glass and reflect on water, sand, and cement. So even if they’re not swimming, as long as they’re outside the house, they are at risk of sunburn.
Skin Care Tip #1
Keep your kids busy indoors between 10 am and 4 pm. The sun’s rays are strongest at these hours so keeping them in the shade is the way to go. Out of doors, apply sunscreen.
Skin Care Tip #2
Tell your kids that their eyes and lips are the most sensitive areas of their skin so wearing their sunnies and applying as SPF-packed lip balm are necessary.
Skin Care Tip #3
During the summer, common children’s skin problems include bungang araw or prickly heat, fungal infections such as buni and anan, and dandruff. These are mainly caused by sweat drying on the surface of the skin, clogging the poresm and attracting bacteria to grow. Keep skin cool and dry to avoid inflammation. Keep cool with a cooling sun spray or powder packed with cornstarch. If in doubt, it is still best to consult a doctor.
