Sinigang na Hipon – Philippine Recipe and Dish

You may add “puso ng saging” to give the broth a richer, thicker texture.

This Filipino dish, the “Sinigang na Hipon” may take 35 to 45 minutes to cook. In this recipe, it will make 4 up to 5 servings.

Sinigang na Hipon Ingredients

  • 10 pieces medium to large prawns
  • 1/2 kilo “sampalok”
  • 5 cups of water
  • 3 tomatoes
  • 1 onion, sliced
  • 1 tablespoon rock salt
  • 2 bundles “kangkong”
  • 1 bundle “sitaw”, cut 2 inches long
  • 1 piece “labanos”, peeled and cut 1 1/2 inches long
  • 2 pieces “talong” or eggplant, cut 2 inches long

Sinigang na Hipon Cooking Instructions

  1. Prepare the “sampalok” broth.
  2. Add water, tomatoes, onion, and salt, and let boil.
  3. Put in prawns and return to a boil.
  4. Pour in “sampalok” broth, add vegetables, and cook until tender. Season with “patis”.
