Former President Corazon Cojuangco Aquino Died of Colon Cancer at MMC

A news circulated especially in the web that the former Philippine President Corazon Cojuangco Aquino died at the hospital. It was true that she passed away in the early hours of August 1, 2009.

It was a great loss to Filipino people when Mrs. Corazon Cojuangco Aquino, the former Philippine President and the wife of Benigno Aquino Jr., passed away at 3:18 a.m. on Saturday August 1, 2009. Former President Corazon Aquino is known as the icon of democracy and people power in the Philippines. Because of her, it gave the Philippine People courage to oust President Ferdinand Marcos. Her death was confirmed to the media by Sen. Benigno ‘Noynoy” Aquino III at around 5:15 am at the Makati Medical Center (MMC).

Mrs. Corazon Cojuangco Aquino was diagnosed of colon cancer where she is battling this cancer disease for more than a year. After the diagnosis of the colon cancer in March last year, Mrs. Aquino underwent a series of chemotheraphy treatment. Then Last May 2009, she went on a surgery to remove parts of her colon. She died peacefully and the cause of her death was was cardio-respiratory arrest at the Makati Medical Center (MMC) where is was confined here since June 25, 2009.

After knowing about the death of Mrs. Corazon Aquino, the Filipino people across the nation mourned. Before her death, many Filipino people all over the world are praying for her fast recovery and in fact there was also a 40 hour prayer vigil for Mrs. Corazon Cojuangco Aquino at the EDSA Shrine in Mandaluyong City.

Noynoy Aquino said “She would have wanted us to thank each and every one of you for all the prayers and your continued love and support. It was her wish for all of us to pray for one another and for our country.”

Earlier before the death of Mrs. Corazon Cojuangco Aquino, a mass was held inside the room by Fr. Catalino Arevalo where she was confined. Inside the room, Mrs. Corazon Cojuangco Aquino was surrounded by all her children, close family members and friends. Fr. Catalino Arevalo, also a close family member, then conducted the final rite known as the Sacrament of Anointing the Sick to Mrs. Aquino a few minutes before her death.
