Women are vain by nature and they like to keep tabs on everything, from their comb to their toothbrush, from their exercise to their diet and most of all to their health. But are the men in the women’s life are this conscious of what’s happening in their lives?
1. Keeping the toilet seat up
Many women are annoyed when their man leaves the toilet seat up. Known to us, minute particles like bacteria and germs from the toilet floats as far six feet away. This can potentially infect everything in the bathroom with bad things from the loo, from the toothbrush, comb, soap, denture cup, floss and tongue cleaner.
It is very easy to avoid this. Always put the toilet seat down before hitting the flush. You can also spray the toilet seat and the lid after several flushes to rid it from bacteria that might have settled in it.
2. No doing his own self-exam
Men ages 20 to 54 are more at risk of testicular cancer but have a high cure rate if detected early. Ask him to do a self-exam once a month, remind him if needed.
The correct steps for the self-exam are as follows:
- Hold each testicle with three fingers, the thumb, forefinger and middle finger.
- Roll each testicle between the thumb and fingers and feel for any hard lumps, nodules and other irregularities. The testicles should feel smooth and the epididymis, tender to the touch.
- Any irregularities should be consulted with the doctor immediately.
3. Ignoring signs of depression
Depression doesn’t manifest on the female of the population only but as men are not raised to show much emotions, they are less likely to seek treatment for depression. They try to tough out depression on their own and often channel it through other things like vices and work. If depression is left undiagnosed, it might to suicide.
Women should be extra sensitive and be on the lookout for any signs of depression. These might be: * avoidance of pleasurable activities
- being angry and frustrated
- showing unusual violent behavior
- pronounced weight loss or weight gain
- overworking
- preferring isolation
Empathize with your man and avoid any judgmental comments. Avoid probing and wait for him to open up, be a good listener. Share with him the decision-making for his treatment and only when he is ready, do not force him for this might lead to further depression. Explore various treatments for depression and find the one that suits your man best. A doctor can prescribe anti-depressant pills and he can go, see a shrink. Build a support system for him like friends, family, relatives and you.
4. An increasing waist size
Being overweight puts your man at a higher risk of developing diabetes, hypertension and heart ailments. Help and support your man to beat the causes of increasing waist size like a sedentary lifestyle and improper eating habits. Encourage him to exercise, join him for added support. Pave the way to eating right. This can’t be done overnight and this does not mean going vegetarian completely either.
5. Improper skin care
Women are conscious when it comes to skin care. Include your man in your daily ritual of protecting the skin. He might not like the face masks and the goo coming in contact with his face but make him apply sun block or sunscreen whenever he go out and more so if he’ll be outdoors all day long. Apply it generously and don’t forget the nape, bask of the ears and neck. Choose a sunscreen with a high SPF.
6. Smoking
Smoking damages many parts of his body and yours also (second hand smoke). Help him to quit and if hasn’t started yet, remind him not to start. Give him your utmost support when he is trying to quit.
7. Unchecked blood pressure
Your man may already have high blood pressure without knowing it and the risks rise as he get older. Have his BP taken regularly. Encourage him to see a doctor so that he will be advised to what to do and medications might be prescribed to lower blood pressure. Change his eating habits to a healthier one.
