During
the International Open CSIT Senior Karate Championships,
the RP karatedo team garnered six golds in a remarkable
performance. The tournament was held last June 6-10,2007
in Cervia, Italy.
The team was lead by Cherli Tugday who is a bronze
medalist in the 2005 Southeast Asian Games in the
women’s kumite -60kgs event. To win the gold in the
women’s team category,Tugday was joined by fellow
national campaigner May Soriano, Alam Cabasal and Mimi
Manansala.
Meanwhile, Rolando Lagman and Mike Dumayag lead the
men’s -60kgs and -75kgs division to gather the gold.
They were later teamed with Joey Pabillore, Erlando
Metante and Ramon Franco to win the men’s team event.
Cabasal, Metante, Franco and Manansala also won the
bronze medals in the weight categories.
Philippine Karatedo Federation (PKF) tournament director
Joey Manansala said, "The results will also enhance the
chances of the medal winners to qualify for the 2007
Thailand SEA Games." He added further that the
Philippine team will go on with their training in
Naples, Italy in preparation for the next tournament to
be held in Sardenia next month. This will be additional
experience to prepare them further for the Thailang SEA
Games. |
