The Social Security System ID system has been made as the core for RP's unified multi-purpose ID system. This was ordered by Pres. Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo today through an executive order signed last January 16. The order was issued to the SSS as implementing body for the modernization and coordination of the ID systems of all government agencies and government-controlled corporations.

The president's Executive Order No. 700 ordered the SSS to take over the work of the National Economic and Development Authority (NEDA) as implementing body of the unified ID system. This is in connection with Executive Order No. 420 which requires all government agencies and government-owned and controlled corporations to modernize and coordinate their ID system.

The work has already been started by NEDA and all the SSS has to do is to continue the work done by the NEDA. Executive Order No. 700 also directs the National Statistics Office (NSO) and NEDA to assist the SSS in developing the unified multi-purpose ID system. The funding for this will be shouldered by the Social Security System.
