The
Armed Forces of the Philippines displayed its
counter-terrorism competence before security officials
from the Association of Southeast Asian Nations and the
regional bloc's dialogue partners during a capability
demonstration at the Fort Bonifacio grounds. The
demonstration was participated by the elite troops from
the Philippine Army's Special Forces and Light Reaction
Battalion, Philippine Army's K-9, Air Force personnels,
Philippine Navy's Special Operations Group and the
Marines.
"The AFP is always ready. We have the capability to
fight terrorism." Army spokesman Lieutenant Colonel
Ernesto Torres Jr. said. Torres also added that although
the military lacks equipments, they have intelligence
and information sharing.
Last January, the military received a P10 billion boost
to their funds for purchasing military hardware like
helicopters, watercrafts and squad rifles.
Many of the delegates to the ASEAN Regional Forum
observed the drill with Japanese Navy Captain Tokuetso
Ishibashi saying that the demonstration was very
impressive. |
