According to a Social Weather Survey, more Filipinos
believe that globalization is good for the country and
that countries that sign trade agreements should be
required to maintain minimum labor standards. The SWS
survey revealed that out of the 1,200 respondents, 49%
believe that globalization is mostly good while 32 %
call it mostly bad and about one in every five
respondents is not sure if globalization was good or bad
for the country. The said survey also disclosed that
Filipinos are of two minds when it comes to complying
with World Trade Organization decisions on trade
disputes if it rules against the Philippines.
Done by the Chicago Council on Global Affairs and
WorldPublicOpinion.org in collaboration with polling
organizations around the world, including the
Philippines, the survey revealed that positive answers
overshadows the negative ones. Results from the
18-nation survey shows that highest levels of support
for globalization are found in export-oriented economies
like China (87%), South Korea (86%) and Israel (82%).
