Monday, December 22nd, 2008

The eyes are the windows of our soul and they do not lie. The eyes , especially the area around it is the first to show signs of fatigue and aging. We can’t stop the aging process but we can reduce the damage and make it look younger and refreshed.

  1. Dark circles
Dark circles around the eyes are mainly caused by lack of sleep but it can also be caused by nasal congestion. Whatever the reason, it makes the veins around the eyes to dilate and widen and thus become darker in appearance. The eyelids also swell when we sleep.

To treat dark circles, try to have at least 8 hours of sleep every night. Look for eye creams that contain vitamin C or K, alpha hydroxy acids and kinetin. Severe cases may need bleaching and laser treatments.

  2. Puffiness or
Eye bags can be inherited, due to fluid retention, hormone levels, too much or too little sleep. If redness and itching accompanies your eye bags, you might have an allergy.

Place chilled cucumber slices, damp tea bags or refrigerated gel mask on the eyes. Eye gel that contains aloe, chamomile, green tea and cucumber may also help. For severe cases, consult your doctor.

  3. Fine lines and crow’s feet
Fine lines and crow’s feet are caused by aging because as we grow older, our skin loses elasticity and becomes thinner and drier.

Moisturizing eye creams will help a lot, especially creams that have Retin-A, alpha hydroxy acids and retinol. Before using these creams, test it first on a small area.
