Cagayan
Valley Region is located on the northeastern part of
mainland Luzon, covering an area of about 26,858.79
square kilometers. Cagayan Valley is the 4th largest
region in the Philippines and has rugged terrain along
its boundaries, with the Pacific Ocean bounding it on
the east, the provinces of Nueva Ecija on the south,
Quezon on the south east and protective mountain ranges
of Caraballo and Cordillera ranges on the west. Between
the ranges is the valley where most of the population
live and is criss-crossed by the mighty Cagayan River,
the longest and widest in the country and its
tributaries which in turn flow into the Balintang
Channel. The mainland is also skirted by the Pacific
Ocean on the east coast and the Bashi Channel on the
north.
The Batanes group of Islands is located at the
northernmost tip of the Philippine Archipelago between
the China Sea and the Pacific Ocean. The coastline which
is more than 890 Kilometers is a rich fishing grounds,
particularly with the Babuyan and Balintang Channels on
the north and the Palanan and Divilacan Bays on the east
including in territorial seas within the 200 km
Exclusive Economic Zone (EEZ).
Cagayan Valley Region is composed of 5 provinces namely
Cagayan, Quirino, Batanes, Nueva Vizcaya and Isabela.
The components cities are Cauayan City, Santiago City
and Tuguegarao City. The Regional Center is Tuguegarao
City, Cagayan while the industrial center is Cauayan
City, Isabela.
Cagayan Valley Region means of livelihood is agriculture
and fishing. The major agricultural industries are rice
and corn in which are the regions main crops. People are
fishing the coast of Cagayan, Isabela and Batanes and
Magat Dam in Isabela. This region is also involved in
livestock production of cattle, hog, carabaos and
poultry. Some of the regions livelihood is furniture
making of rattan and other indigenous materials in which
are for export. This region also exports fruits, fruit
preserves and vegetables. |

People
of the Cagayan Valley Region can speak ans understand
english. The Major dialects that are being used in this
regionare Ilocano, Ybanag, Ytawes and Filipino. In
Batanes, the people speak Ivatan. The climate in this
region is good and there are two pronounced weathers,
the dry which generally occurs beginning December up to
May and wet from June up to November. Hot months are
from March to May and extend up to August.
Going in and out of this region is not a problem because
there are transportation facilities available at all
times. Transpotation companies that travel by land which
ply the Tuguegarao-Manila route and vice-versa. Four
domestica airports service the region and these are
Tuguegarao City Domestic Airport, Cauayan City Domestic
Airport, Basco Domestic Airport in Batanes while Bagabag
Airport in Nueva Vizcaya services charter planes.
Smaller airports/airstrips served by charter services
are in Palanan and Maconacon, both are coastal towns of
Isabela. |
